Caroline York Paris, 90, of Morganton passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born June 18th, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Philip Burns York and Maude Luella Houser York.
Born and raised in the mountain town of Canton NC, Caroline held a deep love of “her mountains” that never faded. That love of the mountains showed through in her love of Appalachian instruments like the dulcimer, banjo, and bowed psaltery. Caroline was very talented in many areas. She enjoyed painting, sewing, yarn work, needlepoint, and dancing. She also was a gifted writer with many published stories and poems. An avid reader, she immersed herself in books until her sight no longer allowed her. Most of all, she loved her girls.
She is survived by three daughters Mary Merriken (Jim) of Granite Falls, Libby Paris of Winston-Salem, and Melinda Paris of Midway; four grandchildren Jessica Merriken (Jared), Zach Merriken (Amber), Beau Brenaman, and Angela Munoz (Lukas); seven great-grandchildren; a sister Ann Akins of Orlando and her son David (Jerrie); and a nephew Bob Bowers (Enrique).
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Jeanne; and three brothers Philip, Jimmy, and Charles.
The family will have a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her Magnolia Lane family for the love and care they provided her.
