Obituary for Dollie Beatrice Woods (Philyaw)

Dollie Beatrice Philyaw Woods, 79, of Lenoir, NC passed away on August 14, 2022.
Dollie was born on May 23, 1943 to Lewis Ward Philyaw and Meady Beatrice Pritchard Philyaw in Arlington, VA.

Dollie married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Lee Woods in 1961. They were married 51 years. Dollie is survived by her two daughters, Yvette Townsend and husband Mark Galleshaw, and Karen Phoenix and husband Mike. She has four grandchildren, who called her Lollie, Breanna McKay and husband Chris, Eyan Townsend and wife Kristi, Ashlyn Taylor and husband Kiefer, and Dylan Phoenix. She has five great-grandchildren, Isabelle McKay, Braeden McKay, Atlas Taylor, Aurora Taylor and Easton Townsend.

Dollie is survived by sister Jeanie Philyaw Rowan.
She was preceded in death by sisters Mattie Ruth Philyaw Bentley, Bertha Philyaw Clark, Pat Philyaw Moore, Annie Mae Philyaw Craig, and brothers Wilfred Philyaw, Bob Philyaw, Buck Philyaw and Tommy Philyaw.

She graduated from Kings Creek High School in 1961.
She delighted in her monthly brunch with her lifelong girlfriends for some catching up.

Dollie's smile lit up every room in which she walked. She had the gift of making everyone she met feel like they had known her for years. Dollie made the best chocolate cake, Boston cream pie, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and the list goes on. To know her, meant you were never hungry, as feeding people was her love language. Dollie also loved to pick on people in a feisty and troublemaker kind of way. You could always tell in her eyes that she was up to something. Making people laugh was another way of showing them her love.

Dollie worked in the Caldwell County School System for many years. She loved serving at her church, Waterlife, working out at Quest4Life Fitness Center and spending time with family and friends. She was an advocate and helper for the Town of Cajah's Mountain, the Lion's Club, and anywhere else she saw a need. Dollie was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother and made her family her utmost priority.

A special thank you to Donna Moore Minton and family, you were so special to her. And a special thank you to her caregivers Kim and Plummie Ashley, Anita Brooks and Tonya Helton.

Dollie, Lollie and Mom: you were so loved, see ya later alligator and don't back out in the road!

There will be a private celebration of life held in Dollie's honor, to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Waterlife Church in Dollie's honor.
