Obituary for Dorothy Mae Hill (Brooks)
Dorothy Brooks Hill, 94, of Hickory NC and formerly of Pollocksville and Maysville, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
Born near Oakboro in Stanly County NC on March 2, 1928, she was the daughter of James F. Brooks and Pearl E. Holshouser. She grew up in east Manhattan, New York City, until her return to NC where she met and married Henry C. Hill of Jones County. They were married 44 years until his death in 1987. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by son Alan L. Hill, Sr., granddaughter Rachael H. Perry, grandson Eric Hill, and great-granddaughter Fawn Oxendine, her brothers James K. Brooks and Roy L. Brooks and sisters Marie B. Simcox and Carlene M. Morton.
Cherishing her memory are children Connie H. Pope (George) of Sebring FL, John H. Hill (Toni) of Jacksonville NC, Joan H. Ipock (Frank) of Hickory NC, and Dr. Sandra B. Hill of Wayne NJ. Also surviving are grandchildren Alan Jr., Barbara and Rebecca Hill; Andrew Hughes; Travis Hill (Sarah); Jason Ipock (Sarah); and 8 great-grandchildren: Erica Trackey, Cortney Lee, Ethan and Benton Hughes, Tyler Hill, and Reagan, Seth and Harper Ipock. Others include sisters Shirley M. Harkey and Marlene Morris, both of China Grove NC, and brothers-in-law Charles A. Hill, Jr. and Linwood Hill, and sisters-in-law Linda H. Foster and Rose H. Squires, as well as many nieces and nephews.
