Obituary for Gwyn Harper "Slim" Taylor

Gwyn “Slim” Taylor, 83, Of Newton made his journey to his heavenly home on September 7, 2022 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Carolyn Combs Taylor; his parents John and Janie Taylor; two sisters Ruby Ross and Reba Riley; as well as his brother Jack Taylor; and nephew Rex Shoemaker.

He is survived by his two daughters Lauryn Taylor Fletcher and her husband Reverend Russell Fletcher of Conover and Lisa Taylor Norris of Lenoir; a granddaughter Jessica Norris of Lenoir; two grandsons Grayson Byerly and Sawyer Fletcher of Conover; two great grandchildren Lynlee Surber and Joshua Norris of Lenoir; two nieces Janey Porter of Boomer and Barbara Barlow of Citrus Springs, FL; and a nephew Kenneth Ross of Boone.

Slim was most known for his many years of Drag Racing. He was a legend and hero to many.

His pride and joy was his special grandson Grayson who he spent most everyday with after the death of his wife Carolyn in 2014. They enjoyed going to car shows in Slim’s 1955 Chevy most weekends.

We would like to thank the Oncology Nursing Staff at CVMC: Sera, Issac, Hannah, and Mandy, as well as his special CNA Pam.

His Celebration of Life will be officiated by the Rev. Russell Fletcher, Paul Christy and Jennifer Forrester Sunday September 11th, 2022 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Hickory.

We ask that if you have a classic car that you please drive it to the service.

In lieu of flowers we ask that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Hickory or to Anchor of Hope Tabernacle in Dallas, NC.

Caring Cremations staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
