Obituary for Kyle Emerson Phillips

Kyle Emerson Phillips, 52, of Hickory passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born August 24th, 1970 he was the son of the late James Ashley Phillips and Judith Ann Phillips. Kyle was a guard veteran, an EMT, and a volunteer firefighter before he became disabled. Kyle's heart was large and he lived to serve his fellow man; this is shown by his final act of kindness of being an organ donor. He always put other people's needs ahead of his own. He was there in New York helping the search and rescue teams look for survivors after 911. He was a hero, a husband and a dad for kids that weren't his own, giving them a home with a lot of love and teaching them life-saving skills which would also instill integrity and honor to all those who knew and loved him. His boisterous laugh will be missed, he had a love of life and fought for it. He was the strongest fighter and taught me to fight for my own life by helping me with my own sobriety by sharing his own struggles with addiction and showing me the beauty of life free of all the constraints of addiction and hopelessness.

He is survived by his sister Cheri Towne of Hickory; two brothers Shawn Phillips of Hickory and Eric Phillips (Jannie) of Hickory; and several stepchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Murray Phillips and his brother-in-law Terrance Nixon.
