Obituary for Ronald Lee Holmes

Ronald Lee Holmes, 90, of Hickory passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at his home. Born December 30th, 1932, he was the son of William Edward Holmes and Seraphine Chmielinski Holmes. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ronald founded Holmes Financial Services, where he worked until retiring. Ronald spent a lot of his time giving back by being heavily involved in his childrens' school boards, from elementary through high school, including serving as President of the PTA for several years. He also started, coached, and directed the football program for St. Stephens Elementary School. He stayed involved in many organizations including being a Charter Member of the Carolina Moonlighters Hickory Chorus (9 years); a member of the Hickory Choral Society (12 years); and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was also an active member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church by being a church choir member and cantor, and by formally serving as a member of the church board. In his spare time, he was a self taught oil and acrylic painter. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by daughter Rhonda Light of the home; three sons Gregory "Greg" Holmes (Denise) of Keystone Heights, FL, William "Bill" Holmes (Melanie) of Hickory, NC, and Eric Holmes (partner Amber Schofield) of Cary, NC; sister Dolores Koopmans (Kenneth) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sister-in-law Margaret Napieralski Whipple of Winston-Salem, NC; thirteen grandchildren Elise Craver (Nicholas), Andrew Holmes, Alexander Holmes, Nicholas Holmes (Alyssa), Caroline Holmes, Olivia Holmes, Austin Holmes, Joshua "Josh" Light of the home, Nicole (Nikki) Light, Lauren Auton, Tyler Auton, Sara Auton, and Adelyn (Addy) Holmes; two great-grandchildren Leila Craver and Ian Craver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Lee Napieralski Holmes; daughter Christine Auton formerly of Fort Mill, SC; sister Linda Dobre formerly of Grand Rapids, MI; and granddaughter Emily Holmes.

A Memorial Service, along with Mass, for close friends and family will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Sebastian Chapel at 921 2nd St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
